that may be you did not choose either adjustment of status or consular processing or you selected both so they have to hold it until you file the I824 for them to know which one you want to use for the green card.

it’s so sad how it would take a lot of time just to process this I824. A simple mistake can do you a lot of damage on top of spending another 465$. 😔The processing times for this kind of file is so frustrating and the worst thing is you can’t do anything about it. Some tried to expedite their cases with valid reasons or tried with the assistance of their congressman or senator but to no avail unless the reason for expedition is “valid enough for them”. If you’re still within the normal processing times say for instance in Nebraska which is an awful 20months, you just have to wait but when your case falls outside the normal processing times, you can call the USCIS to expedite your case, just then they would send your case to the NVC if approved. Lucky are those whose service centers are in California which would only take 3-4months.
